Species:

Cryptopygus antarcticus travei Deharveng, 1981

The species C. antarcticus travei is widely distributed throughout the sub-Antarctic (Stevens et al. 2006; McGaughran et al. 2010). However, C. antarcticus travei is endemic to Marion Island, where it is found in most habitat types. This species is easily acquired in sieved moss samples and can also be collected at coastal locations by beating grass tussocks (Poa cookii). Individuals of C. travei are easily recognized by their dark, metallic blue-black colouring.
